Primary Maths & Literacy
Year 3 to 6 fundamentals. Rebuilding number sense, reading fluency and the quiet confidence that makes high school feel possible.
One-on-one tutoring for WA students from Year 3 to ATAR, delivered in-home across the western suburbs or online anywhere in the state.
We match tutor to student based on year level, subject and personality — not whoever happens to be free. Every tutor holds a current WWCC and a relevant degree from UWA, Curtin or Notre Dame.
Year 3 to 6 fundamentals. Rebuilding number sense, reading fluency and the quiet confidence that makes high school feel possible.
Years 11–12 ATAR Methods, taught by tutors who sat the exam and remember exactly where students get stuck — probability, calculus, discrete.
Essay structure, close reading, unseen texts and the dreaded Section 3. We mark drafts between sessions, so every hour together is spent improving — not deciphering.
Intensive prep for students retaking the Online Literacy & Numeracy Assessment. Targeted drills, past-paper review, exam-day strategy.
For strong students who work hard but scattershot. We build exam timetables, revision systems and the habits that turn effort into ATAR points.
For Year 12s targeting medicine, law or engineering entry. UCAT drills, application polish and mock interviews.
Stats drawn from 48 Year 12 students tutored in ATAR subjects during 2023. Results verified against final TISC outcomes.
Riverhouse Tutoring was founded in 2013 by Eliza Harrow, a UWA-trained mathematician who started tutoring her younger brother through Maths Methods and never stopped. We now work with 40+ families across the western suburbs and a growing roster of regional WA students over Zoom. Every tutor on our team holds a current Working With Children Check, a teaching or honours degree, and — more importantly — the patience to sit with a kid who is convinced they are hopeless at maths and prove otherwise.
If your child doesn't need weekly tutoring, we'll say so.

"My daughter went from a D in Year 10 maths to an A in Methods by the end of Year 11. Eliza doesn't just teach content — she taught her how to actually study. She received an early offer to UWA engineering in August."
"I was re-sitting OLNA for the third time and honestly had given up. Six weeks with Tom and I passed both components. He broke it down into tiny steps and never once made me feel stupid."
"Twin boys, both ATAR English. Riverhouse marked their practice essays each week and the improvement in the feedback was measurable. One scored 89, the other 91. Worth every dollar — and they actually enjoyed the sessions."
Both. In-home sessions run across Applecross, Ardross, Booragoon, Mt Pleasant, Attadale and the surrounding western suburbs. Online sessions run over Zoom with a shared digital whiteboard and work just as well for most subjects — particularly English and Methods. Regional WA students book online exclusively.
For ATAR subjects, weekly sessions during term are the sweet spot, with an extra session in the lead-up to exams. OLNA prep is typically a six-week block. Primary students usually do best with a shorter 45-minute session weekly. We will recommend, not oversell.
Year 3 through Year 12, and a small number of first-year university students in Maths and Statistics. Our tutors are matched to year level and subject — a Methods tutor does not teach Year 4 times tables and vice versa.
Sessions cancelled with 24 hours notice are rescheduled at no cost. Less than 24 hours, we charge half the session fee. If a tutor cancels, you get a full credit plus a priority reschedule. We try to be fair — life happens, especially with teenagers.
A 30-minute meet-the-tutor session, in person or online. We assess the student, discuss goals with the parent, and only continue if it's a good fit.
